Hi, I'm John Hajny (It's Czech, by the way, and we pronounce it HAY-NEE), and I'm the guy behind the whole show. I thought perhaps I should start by telling you a little something about myself so - hopefully - this whole endeavor will make more sense.
For as long as I can remember, I have been a creative person. It started out rather slowly (as many things do for me!), but as I've gotten older, I've realized that I have to be creative to be happy. If I'm not creating something - anything - I don't feel fulfilled. This creativity has and does take many forms, from drawing and painting, to editing a local Porsche Club of America Newsletter and writing on Performance Driving Education, to building all kinds of things like bicycles, cars... and now websites! It just has to come out, you know?
A large part of that creativity also stems from the fact that I don't have a lot of personal wealth, and I possess what I would call a "Frontier Farmer Mentality." If I need it, I can build it. If it's broken, I can fix it, and in either case, likely make it better. I'm sort of ecologically friendly as well I guess, for I feel it is wrong to simply throw something out and go out and buy a new one, when - with a little effort and thought - you could fix what you have now... and even improve on it. Call it sensible, call it frugal, call it cheap... I just plain like to work with things!

So, I've always been equal parts creative and artistic. These two traits in tandem lead me to strive to do everything to a very high level, for to do anything less is not personally satisfying. I guess I got some of that from my dad. From the time I was a little kid, dad always had antique cars and lots of mechanical things in general. We used to do things together (and still do), and I'd watch him build and repair things. Like me, he never had any real formal training in mechanics, fabrication, painting, etc., but had the knack, and the desire to create. Quite naturally, I picked up those traits, and proceeded to take them to new levels.
When I was a senior in high school, dad bought us a 1969 442 Convertible at the AACA National Fall Meet in Hershey, PA. That started my relationship with performance cars in a big way! The 442 was and still is a real beauty, requiring little more than driving. At about the same time, I started doing body work on friend's cars in dad's driveway and progressed to being a professional collision repair technician for 10 years. The used car dealership where I was the Body Shop Manager came up with a decent used Ruby Red '84 944. I knew what they were, but I'd never driven a Porsche before, so I thought I'd be a real great guy and take it up the street to put some gas in it one day while the boss was at the auction. I drove it two blocks, and the next day told the boss I had to have it. That was 1989. One of the smartest things I've ever done - next to buying that car - was joining the Porsche Club of America in 1990. I progressed within the club to becoming the Central NY Region Newsletter Editor, the Track Chairman, and an Instructor with both Trackmasters, Zone 1 of the PCA, and many other groups. means compromising to some degree on quality for the sake of profitability. That was something that I found difficult. Also, working on mundane, run-of-the-mill passenger cars is a little tedious. I like to work on more "interesting" machinery. During this time period, I made a crucial discovery that effects me to this day; I stumbled across... Porsches!
In recent years, I've taken to being an Auto Damage Appraiser professionally, but I still couldn't quite put those body tools away. A couple years back, I stumbled across a wrecked 1989 944S2 that a Porsche club member had "totaled" swerving to miss some deer in the road. He missed the deer, but found a guardrail instead! Yep, I couldn't resist, and today that poor unfortunate car, in its beautifully restored state (below), is my fair weather touring car.

In the past couple of years I've gotten further involved in performance driving, both through my own driving and instructing, and vicariously through the exploits of some of my friends. I've had the great fortune to get my hands into some awesome machinery, such as the stunning ex-ROHR Motorsports '96 911 GT1 (right) formerly owned by my friend Joel Reiser (Incidentally, Joel also campaigned two Reiser Callas Rennsport 911 RSRs in the USRRC & ALMS series).
I've also been able to exercise my need to create by building some as well. I have not had the financial fortitude to live out my own automotive dreams as of yet, but for the past two years I've been able to help my good friend Dr. Dan Galyon realize his dream of owning and driving an awesome Porsche race car. Dan provided me a necessary creative outlet I need by allowing me to create for him the stunning, one-of-a-kind  "1969" 911 GT3S  PCA Club Racer you see on the left.
